Attack of Bridezilla

It’s not as hard as you might think to turn into a Bridezilla while planning your wedding.  It’s natural to get stressed out and, before you know it, the simplest details will make you freak out.  Signs that you might be a Bridezilla include, but are not limited to:

- Vehement screaming when the florist does not return your call before 5pm the same day.
- Uncontrollable weeping at the mere mention of seating arrangements.
- Intermittent and unexpected fits of rage.
-  Weight loss or Ghandi-like stance against eating until you get your way
- Unreasonable expectations and/or death threats to those who cannot meet said expectations.

Believe it or not, wedding planning doesn’t have to be like this.  Don’t fall victim to Bridezilla-itis.  You can rise above the stress and actually have fun during this most exciting time in your life.  The solution is simple – let go.  Release a little responsibility and don’t let yourself get too worked up over the details.  Hire a wedding planner, and let him/her feel the pressure while you indulge in the excitement of being engaged.  The wedding planner will be your best friend in preparing for your wedding, by managing thousands of details you needn’t worry about.

If you find yourself  turning into Bridezilla, remember that you have a mother who is always happy to help you.  She’s imagined this day just as long as you have, and it will mean a lot to her to be involved.  Mom can check with local bakeries, florists and photographers.  She can help you collect wait lists, prices, portfolios and other details including a copy of each vendor’s contract. She is a valuable asset and well know antidote to Bridezilla-ness.

Sure, we don’t expect too much from the groom when it comes to planning a wedding.  But, he’s got a say too.  Step away from the checklist and let the Mister regain some control.  Leave the more manly duties to your fiancé, and let him pick the band, choose the reception venue, and you’ve got to let the man pick his own tuxedo.  Let him handle seating arrangements or the guest list.  There’s a lot the groom can do with a crazy Bridezilla to hold him back.

Lastly, don’t forget about your friends and wedding party.  They’re excited for you and the big day too, so take them at their word and put ‘em to work!  Ask the Maid of Honor to pick up your shoes and/or dress, help mail invitations, etc.  You’ve got a good group of people around you, so take advantage and don’t put it all on yourself.  Happy planning!
